Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett

When first looking at The Pillars of the Earth, it may seem like a daunting read. With over 1000 pages, the book is certainly intimidating– especially to high school kids. However, The Pillars of the Earth ended up being our favorite book of our high school careers. The chapters leave you hanging and you find yourself reading more and more. Because the novel is so long and takes place over the lifespan of the characters, the reader is able to connect greatly with each one of them. Chapters end in cliffhangers and often switch between different character’s points of view, making you constantly want to know what happens next. The novel is packed with action, romance, and suspense, allowing for both genders and (most) ages to enjoy it.
We would highly recommend reading this book for all grades in high school. If you don’t typically enjoy reading books for school, we suggest giving Pillars of the Earth a chance– it will definitely surprise you!
