Sleep

“Sleep”

Pull the covers tighter

Puff up the pillow,

Shuffle your feet,

Flip left, right,

Lie on your back,

Your stomach,

Stretch your arms,

Fall asleep.

Fall asleep.

Fall.

Asleep.

Think about her.

Fall in love,

Fall into her arms,

Fall for her laugh,

Her smile,

Her jokes,

Her eyes,

Her hair

but

her hair’s a mess

her eyes shoot bullets

her voice is indifferent

her smile is flipped the wrong way

her laugh fades from memory

fall out of her arms

fall out of love

Think about her.

the covers aren’t tight enough

the pillow’s never comfy enough

your feet can’t shuffle around enough

no position feels good enough

your arms don’t stretch wide enough

you weren’t right enough

will you ever be right enough?

you didn’t try enough

you’ll never cry enough

you’ll never be tired enough

to sleep.
