*Ring* “Okay class, turn in your papers. If you didn’t finish, don’t worry. You will have time after the Thanksgiving break to finish it. Bye!” Mrs.Buglio said. As I packed my bags up, I noticed something different. Mrs.Buglio was smiling. I mean, it’s not wrong to be cheerful. But she is always grumpy and moody. That didn’t bother me much, I wanted to go home and watch Netflix. I met up with Jess and Zoe. They were my best friends. It’s because of them I was able to solve the mystery case. There were rumors about a house that was built at a dead end. That’s not even the most surprising part. A person was living there. Sure, I mean many people live in a house that is built at a dead end. But, no one else lives in the same street as this house. It is always dark and surrounded by trees. When we went into the house we thought it was empty, but it was not. I wrote a journal page for my experience. It says-

Hey “Book”, you want to know something really weird. And no, it’s not Jess falling into a pond again. It’s about a house. Yeah, I know. What so weird about a house? Well, my friends and I found a dark house that is built at a dead end. We were bored, so we decided to explore it. We thought no one was living there because it was always dark. We were wrong. Like as wrong as 10-5=3. When we knocked on the door Zoe murmured, “Hey guys. Maybe this was a bad idea. I mean, someone might be living here. Or we might get arrested and I get a criminal record on my permanent record. And you know what that means? I won’t be able to go to Yale and then mom is going to “hurt” me.” Well, maybe I was lying about the murmured part before. She started like that and went to yelling.
“ Zoe, we’ll be fine. And you’re being a big “excuse-maker,” Jess said. “You don’t want to go to Yale, and your mom is the nicest person. Stop exaggerating.” Then, it ended with silence. I opened the front door, since it wasn’t locked. I know, it’s trespassing, but know no one lives here. I hope.
We enter the room and we see no light bulbs or any type of light. So we take out our phones and use the flashlight. We look around and Jess observes a hot coffee mug. She called us over and told us how she found the mug. It says, “Ugh!” Specifically, the word “Ugh” bolded. “Hey, so before Zoe didn’t want to enter the house and I think that spread to me. I mean we can confirm now that someone lives here because of the mug. Can we leave now Martha?”
“No, we took a risk and we need to completely explore it. Please stay, I will pay you back later. Anything you want. Please.” I replied. I know it was scary, but I needed to explore it. They both didn’t say anything, but right away I knew that they were okay. If they walked out of the door, that’s a no. But they stayed, for me. Suddenly we heard a noise and a voice.
“Oy, who’s there in my house.?” A man said.
And that’s where my journal ended. Taffy, my dog spit on the rest. Well, I will finish the rest of the story for you. The man had a big beard, bright green eyes and was tall. He looked straight at me. I looked into his dead eyes. Then I realized. He was an old man.
I know. An old man could lift me, a 96-pound kid. That’s when I said, “Please don’t hurt us, we were only trying to find something for a science project. We thought no one lives here so we came over.”
“When you foolish kids learn anything?”
“Never.” Zoe sarcastically spoke up. I guess she wasn’t scared anymore. We looked into the man’s eyes, I saw fear. Which was surprising, considering I broke into his house. He then uttered, “Ay, I’m sorry mate. My mistake. I thought you were my old archnemesis Luis, Frank, and Marc. We were the world’s best robbers, we also stole all the money from a big bank. But, they took it all and left me behind.”
“Wait, so your friends were our height, and you were the tallest of them?” Zoe questioned.
“Yes, exactly! So I was the main man when we needed to steal things that were high up. It worked well, that is until they abandoned me.” He replied in a depressed tone. This was something that I needed to fix. “So sir, I understand that your friends have abandoned you, but you must come out to the light,” I say.
“I can’t do that. Then the police will catch me and I will go to jail. So I cannot leave.” He spoke.
“Well, I think I know how, not to get you in jail. If you let us, we will free you.” Jess yelled. Not too loud, that would break our eardrums. The man thought it through a lot. He spent 15 mins to make his decision. We were looking through our phones for time to pass away. And at last he said, “ Look guys, if you have a good plan I will come out with you.”
“ We do. We might be kids, but my dad is a high lawyer and he can help you. But you need to tell the truth and might pay a little fine. But your outcome will be beautiful.” Jess exclaimed. The man agreed and we are meeting up at his house again today. We will bring him out, and let him face freedom.
