The Paradox Of Loss

How can something that’s gone
weigh you down so much?
They say energy is neither created
nor destroyed
so then tell me,
why do this space feel so vacant?
Perhaps I was simply living vicariously
through your reckless inertia
and came to a screeching stop when you left.
Or maybe your love
was never a tangible entity
capable of reciprocity,
rather a fallacy I dreamt up in your image.
